Hi Sweet Friends ::: Brain Surgery Benefit Raffle Ends 8/10

Hello My Sweet Friends! Oh, how I have missed you! Thank you so much for all your sweet comments, your prayers and for welcoming my guest bloggers... your words of encouragement have meant so much to me!!! Also thank you to whomever arranged for the words of encouragement from Mommy Blogs! All the comments have made me feel so loved by my fellow blogging community. I wish I were here to say that I'm healed and back for good. Unfortunately, we're not there yet. One day I know the Good Lord will let it happen and I've already renewed Pinterest Fanatic because I know that I will be back dear ones.

For those not familiar, I have a serious neurological disorder known as Chiari Malformation. This means part of my brain is herniated into my spinal canal and is compressing my brain stem and spinal cord. This also interferes with the normal flow of cerebral spinal fluid. There is no cure and the only chance for regaining some quality of life and preventing further damage to the central nervous system is through a brain surgery known as Posterior Fossa Decompression Surgery. This condition causes unbearable pain throughout my neck, debilitating headaches and many other terrible and severe symptoms. I was recently told I have a Retroflexed Odontoid. This means my poor little brain stem is being compressed from the opposite side as well by my top vertebrae (also known as Basilar Invagination). This has caused Cranial Settling and Craniocervical Instability in my neck. I've suffered for over 2 years from the most excruciating and horrid pain one could ever imagine. I'm beyond ready for relief.

There are only 2 Specialists in the U.S. who can help me. Neither are covered by my insurance and both require traveling and lodging out of state. My sweet fellow blogging community is helping me promote a raffle to raise funds. Tickets are being sold for only $2 each with price breaks as follows:
1 for $2
3 for $5
7 for $10
16 for $20
50 for $50
If you would like to purchase a ticket, simply go to http://www.paypal.com/ and send payment "as a friend" (since this is a donation and is non profit) to: info@chiarionemalformation.com. I will reply with your raffle #'s as soon as possible. Here's the incredible lot of prizes you could win valued at over $405 Retail Cost.

Mother's Are Amazing!

Mother's Day is one of my absolute favorite Holidays. I feel so blessed that God chose me to raise my sweet children and they are my world. The bond between a Mother and child is like no other and I cherish them so much. They are incredible kids who are a joy to be around, my cup runneth over! I can't believe how quickly they grow up... seems like one day you are changing diapers and the next they are preparing for college! I am so thankful for the amazing Mother in my life and for always being there for me. She has been such an inspiration and incredible role model for me. As we celebrate the Mother's in our life this weekend, I'm excited to present this Mommy Themed Infographic courtesy of PromoCode4share.com. Let me know what you think... I love the gift idea of cooking for Mom. My son cooked me breakfast in bed last Mother's Day and it was so thoughtful and sweet.

So, I got a phone call a few weeks ago telling me that my doctor wanted to see me after she got
my bloodwork back. Apparently, at 35 years old, I have high cholesterol. I decided then and there that I was going to start eating healthier, so I got online and did some research. I found a recipe for homemade granola that I wanted to try, so I went to my local grocery store and got the ingredients and loaded up on a bunch of produce as well. The next day, I made the granola and it was so good! So, I thought I would share the recipe with y’all. I actually found it on the internet and I can’t remember what website I got it from, but it is super easy and yummy!

So many of us live busy lives, so busy that we don't often take the time to consider the foods we eat as a mid-morning or mid-day pickup. A candy bar or bag of chips, maybe some fries from the local drive-through. We need something small, something to keep us going until the next meal but then wonder why we feel tired a just few hours later.

It's probably your choice of snack, or the absence of a snack at all. Yes, believe it or not, no snack at all can be just as bad as an unhealthy choice.

When we eat smaller, healthier meals every three or four hours, it helps to keep our blood glucose levels stable. So those snacks, as long as they are healthy snacks, are important to our bodies. They help to keep us going. They help keep us alert. They carry us into the evening and help to prevent late night snacking during the time of day our metabolism begins to slow, leaving us not processing the foods as effectively.

With a little planning, a quick and healthy snack can be ready to grab and go. 100 calorie snack portions can be prepared in advance and made ready to tuck into your purse, briefcase, backpack or diaper bag. So when that mid-morning or mid-day hunger strikes, you have a healthy, 100 calorie snack at your finger tips, ready to go.

Another benefit of preparing your own snacks in advance is you won't be as tempted to run out for a fast food treat or nosh on something from the convenience store. Healthy snack options are often times rather frugal, making them not only kind to your health, but kind to your wallet.

Healthy 100 Calorie Snacks

  1. 1 banana
  2. 3 cups of air popped popcorn *sprinkle it with a tablespoon of nutritional yeast to add B vitamins and lend a cheesy flavor
  3. 1/2 cup of plain Greek yoghurt with a dash of cinnamon and a teaspoon of local honey
  4. 1/2 cup of baby carrots and 2 tablespoons of hummus
  5. 1 cup of grapes *try them frozen
  6. 1/2 cup shelled edamame
  7. homemade trail mix - 1 tablespoon of peanuts and 2 tablespoons of dried cranberries
  8. 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce, sprinkled with cinnamon
  9. 1 string cheese and 2 whole grain crackers
  10. 10 tortilla chips and a 1/4 cup of salsa
  11. 1/2 cantaloupe
  12. 1/2 cup of pistachios, about 25
  13. dark chocolate, 1 block or 3 squares
  14. 1 cup of berries topped with 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yoghurt and drizzled with local honey
  15. 1/2 cup of kale chips
  16. 1 stalk of celery and 1 tablespoon of natural peanut or almond butter
  17. 18 mini-pretzels or 40 pretzel sticks
  18. 1 hardboiled egg and a Melba toast
  19. 40 Goldfish crackers
  20. 14 almonds or 8 cacao dusted almonds *this, by far, is my favorite healthy snack - the beneficial lipids in almonds help to decrease blood glucose levels.

When you live out of the way, going to a grocery store daily or even weekly, may be out of the question. My sister would faint if she didn’t have a Wal-Mart within 1 mile of her home. She’s what you would call a ‘daily’ shopper. My family on the other hand, shops once a month. Doing so accomplishes more than 1 goal.

There are many benefits to living a more frugal lifestyle. The obvious reasons include saving money, being a good steward, and living within a budget. We don't always realize that, in addition to saving us money, living more frugally is also green and is, often times, healthier for our families.

With so many products on the market that we rely on every day to keep our homes clean, it may be a bit overwhelming to think about replacing them with more natural or frugal alternatives. But honestly, that is the furthest from the truth. It is actually simplifying your life, in addition to being kinder on our family budgets.

With just a few ingredients you can make homemade, green cleaning products that will clean your home just as well as the commercial products, all without breaking the bank, or harming your family. Frugal cleaning products that are non-toxic and cost pennies in comparison. They will give you the freedom and peace of mind to empty your cabinets of all the toxic chemicals we once believed were necessary.

Valentine's Day Nail Polish

I have the sweetest friends and they have provided guests posts just for you while I am away. Thank you so much for all your support and prayers. Please keep them coming sweet friends!!! Please show some love to my wonderful guests and have a beautiful blessed day. God is so good!!! xo

I'm starting to get excited for Valentine's Day! Are you? I love my holidays and I feel that they are worth going all out for, without breaking the bank of course! I recently found a STEAL of a DEAL at my local CVS (I found Revlon Nail Polish marked at a 75% off Clearance!! And, I had several $0.50 coupons for any Revlon nail products, making each bottle about $0.75!) and now have a variety of nail polish colors! There are many variety of reds and pinks, even white too, in my new stash of Nail Polish shades. When it comes to Valentine's Day, I try to "doll" myself up a bit for my hubby. And, wanted to decorate my fingertips for the up and coming holiday... Pinterest, here I come! There is a PIN for everything isn't there? There has to be a pin for nail decor, right?

Right! There are tons of pins regarding nail art. Here is the one that I'll be tackling:

I decided up on a sparkly red nail polish with a light pink heart painted to my left fourth finger... as they say, it's connected right to the heart (hence why wedding rings are worn on this finger)! Please do not mind the low quality of picture. Yes, Santa did not bring me a new camera *sigh* But, I do hope you can at least see my attempt in completing this PIN:

I am not a "nail artist" by any means. But, you can see that it turned out pretty good! And, my Husband took note! Do you "doll-up" for Valentine's Day? I would love to hear any thrifty tips you have!

Special Thought for the Day!

A dear friend sent me a thoughtful card and pointed me towards this verse. I felt led to share it with you... No matter how big your problem may seem - remember how big our God is...

Isaiah 41:10
New Living Translation (NLT)
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

A Heart-Shaped Cake

I have the sweetest friends and they have provided guests posts just for you while I am away. Thank you so much for all your support and prayers. Please keep them coming sweet friends!!! Please show some love to my wonderful guests and have a beautiful blessed day. God is so good!!! xo

So, you want to make a heart-shaped cake for your sweetie but don't have a heart-shaped pan? What do you do? Well, I found a PIN for that! As long as you have a square and a circle pan (of equal size, i.e. both 8") you can make your heart-shaped cake! It is a very simple baking project, even easier than what I thought it would be. If I can make a heart shaped cake by improvising, so can you! Let's check out that PIN...

http://pinterest.com/pin/78390849733780663/

Board: Valentine's Day

As you can see I baked both a circle and a square cake, about 8" in diameter. If you have smaller or larger pans, that is okay! Just be sure that the square and circle pans that you chose have the same diameter. We do not want a lop-sided heart now do we? :)

Now, for the hardest part! Cut the circle piece in two... right down the middle:

You will need to transfer both your intact square cake and the two circle halves onto a larger plate. I utilized a Christmas Cookie platter (just because of it's size) to construct my heart cake. Place the square cake down first, and then place on the circle halves. See below for a visual aid:

Lastly, just ice your heart cake in any fashion you would like. I chose a fluffy vanilla icing and a Valentine's sprinkle mix from Wilton's. The possibilities are endless. They say a way to a man's heart is through his stomach! As long as you start with a yummy cake, I'm sure he will not mind how it's decorated. So, don't stress if you are not a professional cake decorator. As you can see, I'm not!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Happy New Year Pinterest Fanatics!

Hello Sweet Friends and Happy New Year!!!
I hope you have enjoyed "Christmas Fanatic" as much as I have. I will be transitioning back to "Pinterest Fanatic" over the next week, so there may be moments when our graphics do not match... or a button may be temporarily missing - but I am truly excited for what 2013 has in store. I will be leaving the link to our Christmas Gift Guide in tact as a reference for any gift occasion throughout the year. I still have a few feature articles left to write on some of these fabulous products and these will be posted over the next few weeks. Our family has been immensely blessed to experience such awesome products and I would like to thank all our generous sponsors for making the 2012 Christmas Gift Guide a huge success!!! God Bless each and everyone of you and may you have an amazing 2013!!! xo
